How Carol’s Law Works
How Carol’s Law Works
A Clear, Structured Process
We keep the process straightforward and proportionate. You start by telling us the essential information about your concerns, and we explain what may be needed at each stage.
The exact process may vary depending on the circumstances and the type of support agreed, but families are not expected to prepare a complete case file before contacting us.
Our 5-Step Process
We only ask for the information needed at each stage, keeping the process clear, structured and manageable.
-
Start by sharing the essential information about your concerns, what has been happening and the type of support you are looking for.
At this stage, we may ask for:
Basic contact information
A short summary of the concern
Who the concern relates to
Any immediate safety concerns
What support you are seeking
-
We review the information provided to understand the circumstances, whether Carol’s Law is an appropriate service and what the next step may be.
We consider:
The nature of the concern
The support being requested
Whether additional information is needed
Any safeguarding or urgency considerations
The appropriate service pathway
-
If further information is relevant, we will explain what is needed rather than asking you to prepare everything in advance.
This may include:
Relevant observations
Important incidents
A timeline or chronology
Previous contact with services
Supporting documents where appropriate
-
Once the relevant information is available, we provide the agreed support within the scope of our non-clinical role.
Depending on the service, this may involve:
Organising family concerns
Preparing structured information or reports
Supporting referrals
Supporting authorised communication with professionals
-
We help record responses, review progress and identify any appropriate next steps.
This may include:
Recording professional responses
Reviewing outstanding actions
Identifying further relevant information
Supporting appropriate follow-up communication
